39th edition of the D-Day Landings Marathon

Registration is now open for volunteers for the 39th edition of D-Day Landings Marathon, which will take place from 4th to 7th June 2026. The event has established itself as a must-attend fixture on the Normandy sporting calendar, bringing together over 30,000 runners each year to celebrate and pay tribute to the history of the D-Day landings.

Created in 1988 to pay tribute to the events of D-Day through sport, the D-Day Landings Marathon is set to hold a new edition from 4 to 7 June 2026. With its iconic routes, spanning coastline and countryside, the event fully embodies the region’s history while offering an exceptional showcase of Normandy.

This popular sports weekend features a unique range of events allowing everyone to participate according to their skill level and preferences:

– The D-Day Landings Marathon, the signature race with a route steeped in history (5,000 participants);

– The Relay Marathon, strength in unity (250 teams of 4);

– The Pegasus Half Marathon, starting from the legendary Pegasus Bridge (5,000 participants);

– The 10K Crédit Agricole Normandie, the streets of Caen are yours (5,000 participants);

– La Rochambelle, a walk/run to raise money for cancer research (10,000 participants);

- Foulées de la Liberté, 4,000 children from schools in Caen.

to each their own mission in serving the participants

The event would not be possible without the involvement of numerous volunteers, who contribute both to the development of the sport and to promoting the region. Their commitment is expressed through strong values: friendliness, team spirit, and sharing, which make each edition a true collective adventure. No prior experience is necessary: each volunteer is integrated into a team and supported by a mission leader.

From 2nd to 9th June 2026, more than 1,600 people contribute to the success of the event by taking part in a variety of roles:

– Reception: information point for participants and spectators, assistance for exhibitors, directing participants to shuttles, accompanying elite athletes;

– Registration: distribution of bibs, management of registration-related issues;

– Logistics: setting up and dismantling the Marathon Expo the finish line area, managing equipment, organizing spaces;

– Race starts: setting up and dismantling start areas, organizing flows and start gates, guiding participants;

– Events: coordination of service providers, site decorum, award ceremony protocols;

– Signallers: providing guidance and information to road users, ensuring route safety;

– Refueling: setting up and operating refueling stations (water and food);

– Local buffet: setting up and serving a buffet of regional specialties at the finish line of Sunday's events.
